In 2044, a massive solar flare destroyed all the circuitry and digital data on earth, throwing the world into chaos. Wars broke out, governments crumbled, and resource struggles erupted around the world. Despite massive global change and an end to life as we once knew it, one establishment retains its former glory and cultural importance: Waffle House.

Amid the upheaval of technological collapse, well-stocked and self-sufficient Waffle Houses remained safehouses for travelers - a trail of reliable stopping points for anyone moving through the southeastern quadrant of the great wastelands once known as the United States. The Waffle House Index is a collection of fragments, each capturing some aspect of what Waffle House means in our current year, 2046. Lovingly gathered by the Collector, they stand as a remembrance of life in the aftermath.
